What are the National Games? It’s an opportunity for regions to send team or teams to a fun filled week of tournament play, soccerfest and other activities bringing together players, coaches, refs and board members as an AYSO family. Every even numbered year AYSO hosts The National Games. The teams are selected from over 200 AYSO region entrants. The tournament week will have a variety of events and opportunities for the athletes to meet and interact with players from all over the country.
How does a team get to attend the National Games? Regions have the opportunity to place teams into a Lottery Draw to be invited to the tournament. This year is a record year of teams. 1426 teams put in for 220 team slots. There are no guarantees if you put a team in that you will be selected.
Did Cullman put in teams and get invited? YES!! Cullman put in 4 teams and the U12B received an invitation to attend the National Games for 2010.
Has Cullman ever participated in the Games? No, this is the first time Cullman Region 414 has put in and been invited to play. To our knowledge it will also be the first Region within our Area.
Who is eligible to play on this team from Cullman? Try outs will be held and selected from any player that is registered for the Fall 2009 season in the U12B division who played at least ½ their scheduled games.
Why does it cost this much? There are 12 players on the roster and 2 coaches. Each person is estimated at $1,000. This is for travel, hotel, food, uniforms for them for a week long tournament. Which is why there are fundraisers, we are asking for anyone that would like to help give to these boys to help each of them have this life experience.
Why should Cullman participate in the Games? It is an opportunity to open a world of soccer outside their box to 12 players from Cullman. They will have the opportunity to spend a week with other peers of different level of play and sportsmanship to bring home to Cullman to help build within our region. We are always looking on how to improve our region, our player’s skills, this is another way we can do just that.
